If you don't stuff your face at every opportunity it helps as well. On the other side, Spain is making a fortune out of the Camino but the facilities they provide are appalling. They need to spend some money on toilets, bins and cleaning before it becomes Gary Waldronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06926417552690815415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36840678.post-32304405795693082252016-08-28T07:56:30.511+02:002016-08-28T07:56:30.511+02:00A large spoon does not take up much room and can m...A large spoon does not take up much room and can make a difference. I really felt it as a catastrophy the first time I had to walk away from the group to find a suitable spot in the bushes to squat and relieve myself. I am not proud of it but it turned out to be necessary a handful times during my 32 days out there. I think that it is time to establish LNT (leave not trace) principles in the Camino. It is hard because some people do not look at it as a wilderness trail but now it is a UNESCO site! But I hope that I have been able to do it in a way that will not disturb any others. Using "cheap" paper and no wipes will speed up the degradation process. Walking well away from the trail will ensure that others do not just step into it, and gives more privacy. In December, volunteers walk the length of the Frances in Palencia and pick up all visible litter except poo. The program is well-publicized, but we only get 2 or 3 volunteers, and none is Spanish. I wish we had been included in your roundup article. Corrugated iron walls on 3 sides sloped roof and opening away from the track. Some privacy, watertight and not permanent. When it is needed dig a new one nearby and use its spoil to infill the old one.
